It’s that time of year again for us Catholics to give up something we cherish for 40 days and 40 nights. In years past I’ve fallen off the wagon, though I’ve also had years where I have been very successful.
Hardest things I’ve successfully given up: Table Salt (I’m the sodium queen), Pop, and Ice Cream
So what do I have in store for myself this year? Red meat. You read the correctly. This Design Apprentice is a true carnivore and I am going to give up my beloved succulent and juicy cow. Why? It’s just not healthy, it’s been linked to numerous forms of cancer, and if giving this up could lead to a healthier life, than why not?
Tonight on the treadmill I had a little chat with God. I want to make sure that I am going to live this Lenten season the way it should be. That I’m remembering that I’m giving up something miniscule in the grand scheme of things for His sake. Because Jesus suffered an agonizing death and it was for a reason. Salvation was the ultimate gift and it’s the perfect time for us to remember the reason we have these traditions and use this time to really serve the Lord.
