Snowpocalypse

image

If the news is any indicator, and the weatherman is correct for once, then Chicago has it coming. I’m staying warm and bundled up in my high rise but it’s only a matter of time until we get ambushed by up to 23 inches of snow. The last time the city was hit so hard was 1967, to give you an indicator, my mom was 5 during that chaotic blizzard. I thought I’d share some photos from that wintry blizzard.

Things are much brighter downtown.

Today I did it, friends.

I made the move downtown. I can’t begin to describe how anxious I was today to get everything situated.

When we arrived the room looked something like this

I had my work cut out for me. Good thing I’ve been shopping and planning for this for ages. Within hours the transformation was complete. Of course more items will be added with time, but before living in a space it can be hard to decide what you need.

006010Oh and the view? That’s not too bad either. Lake Michigan can be seen from my bay window during the day.

Tonight my new roommate and I will hit the town. I can’t wait to share details with you. I’ll also have to show you pictures of our living space. My roommate is an impeccable designer by hobby, like yours truly. Our place would make Carrie Bradshaw take notes. Until next time hope you enjoy your weekend!

Moving On Up

I move downtown to Chicago and leave the life of suburbia in less than a week. That translates to next Saturday. To say I am becoming a tad overwhelmed is slightly exaggerated. I have bought my bedding and hope it translates to my muse: these photos.

I am still in need of little things and need to remind myself some of the most important design elements cannot be added until a space is lived in. Otherwise how do you know what works best?

ie. area rug, wall art, window treatments for a high rise bay window.

Bottom line: I am so ridiculously excited but also in desperate need of some relaxing design mode. I’m thinking of  a wine and painting night this week to create some perfect canvases and unwind in the process.

I can’t wait for my move, it will mean more time for me which translates more time for blogging. It  will mean the removal of a 3 hour round trip commute (due to lovely city traf)

Without further adieu, meet my inspiration:

Where for Art Thou Green Grass?

Hello all, Design Apprentice here! I have a confession.

On Sunday mornings I love when I can talk Bob or my Mom into driving around my favorite town to look at real estate. Especially those beauties for sale.

This might sound like a sweet traditional, but it’s a sickness stemming from a line line of home addicts that go before me. Honestly, it’s in the design apprentice lineage.

My mother and her siblings have kept real estate magazine laying around in lieu of the Sunday paper. This in spite the fact that my uncle is the editor for that very newspaper. We stop and grab pamphlets, or leave HGTV on while bustling around the home, just so when we stop we can take in a couple moments of freedom.

So my question, and it is a big one. Would you prefer a large home in a suburb community, be it a small yard; or would you rather a home on boundless amounts of land, even if that home was to be of a less grand size?

Dying to know your answers!

Auld Lang Syne

Blog friends, we have a new years to be thankful for! I hope your New Years Eve was excellent and full of people that matter the most to you.

Handsome and I went to a well known Chicago eatery, Feast. And feast we did on their priced menu: $45 for a 4 course meal.. don’t mind if we do!

002

Last year we started a tradition where we go out for an intimate dinner, just the two of us, before meeting up with everyone else. It’s a great way to reflect on our previous year and add a little romance to the fun.

After a wonderful dinner we headed on over to our friend’s place in the city.

008

We took a shot of all of the gentleman (most of them eligible, ladies)011

Lest we forget the ladies who were out. The ratio is always laughable.  (Aaand I bought a weave. Here I am with my new locs. I must confess, I should have made this investment ages ago)013

Once out we met up with my wonderful co workers. I love these ladies!

015

Handsome and I out. He didn’t need the top of his head.

018

And my partner and I after midnight. I’m not sure if I’ve told you this before but we went to Junior High, High School, and College together. Then at work we were paired up as partners, such a small world!

2011 is here, and it’s going to be a great year for all of us, I can feel it!
