about me

Hi, I'm Katie!  I started blogging in 2010 so that I had a place to be creative.  The Design Apprentice has evolved into a place for DIYers and those that want to become DIYers, whether it be crafts or home renovations this page is meant for those that have honed their skills by being self taught. This blog is for those on a budget looking to get the look they love without breaking the bank.

I provide instructions on how to get the look for less. Be it home design or crafting ideas. My posts offer tips on tackling decorating and being crafty with a budget.

If you can't get enough HGTV, love attempting to recreate Pins, and appreciate breathing new life into classic furniture pieces you'll feel right at home here. You'll get a firsthand look at home remodeling projects that favor the farm house cottage style.

I started tackling projects a little over five years ago. I've been featured on TheNest.com and guest posted on other blogs as well. I get my hands dirty and I'm not afraid to tackle a project to achieve my desired results. I've done everything from  removing mastic with a steamer,  to installing kitchen counters, and I've even spray painted my own wedding table numbers. If it's DIY I gleefully do it. If the look I want isn't on the market, I'll be sure to try and create it.

Since first starting this blog I have  married my then boyfriend, bought a house, and had a baby. All the while tackling projects and making sure to make things pretty while pinching pennies. You'll be sure to see and hear stories about my life with my woodworking husband and our life as new and proud parents.

Like most people these days, I know what it's like to be busy. I work full time, have a wee little baby, and also want to spend time working on my home, so that it can become the vision dancing in my head. Like so many women, I've learned to wear many hats. When it's time to relax I can be found in the bath tub with a book, throw in a glass of wine and I'm a happy lady.

I love to hear from readers to please don't hesitate to e-mail me.
